What does a holy light have to do with a Titus 2 Woman? For our first guest contribution for “A Holy Life”, I’m thrilled to welcome Betty Predmore back to the blog! Betty, thank you so much for your support and friendship.
A Holy Light Shining Through a Titus 2 Woman
Slowly, through the passage of time, I find myself becoming the Titus 2 woman. She is the woman of more mature age that is to be a role model to the younger women. She guides them to live a life that is worthy of Christ. This is a huge responsibility.
I have women in my church, my ministry, my home, and my community who are learning what it means to love and serve the Lord by observing what I do.
What Does That Mean for Me?
It means I have to live a holy life. I need to conduct myself in a way that pleases my Savior and offers an example to others.
So how can I know if my life is a good example? I ask ourselves some tough questions, and then I answer with a sincere heart:
- Are my words and actions in my home in line with what God’s word says I should do and say as a mother and a wife?
- How do I treat my extended family?
- When I am in the company of non-believers, do I continue to walk out the gospel or am I swayed to the ways of the world?
- Do I have scripture stored in my heart that is readily available to share with those in need?
- Do I spend time with my Savior each day….in the word, in prayer, in stillness?
- Do I offer grace and compassion to those who need it, wether it is deserved or not?
- Do I speak love into others?
- When people see me, do they see a heart filled with the fruits of the spirit, or a heart hardened by anger, resentment, and pain?
- What can I do to be more like Christ every day?
These are some tough questions we all need to ask ourselves if we have a heart’s desire to live a life holy and pleasing to our Father in Heaven. Many times, it is hard not to conform to the world by going with the flow to be liked, accepted, and included. Many times it is easier to conform to the world in our anger, so that we feel free to spend our time and energy hating, resenting, and being bitter. But God doesn’t want us conforming to this world:
Do not be confirmed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
This is my goal. This should be the goal of each of us, to live a life that is transformed and renewed. It is not easy, but it is so very worth it. On the days when I feel like I just can’t live up to my expectations, or to God’s, I remind myself that He knows me. He created me and by doing so, gave me that capacity to live a life of holiness. I have been chosen by Him. You have been chosen by Him.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
1 Peter 2:9
Choose light over darkness. Choose a life that is holy and pleasing to God over a life that pleases the world. Be an example to others of the love, grace, and compassion of Christ. Be a light in someone else’s darkness…a holy light.
